French 15 3/4″ Viola, Mirecourt School c.1910

Modelled on a Golden Period Stradivari viola, this instrument is comfortably sized and beautifully crafted from strikingly attractive tonewoods. A clear, bright sounding viola in the best French tradition, in practically mint condition.

Mirecourt, nestled in the Vosges region of France, is one of the great musical instrument making centres of the 18th and 19th centuries, many of the great French makers served their apprenticeships in this important town. Top quality workshops produced some of the best trade instruments, many like this were destined to be sent all over the world and left unlabelled for the local supplier to insert their own marketing labels.
